Course description

A training course designed to train people to provide CPR and use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) in a cardiac arrest situation and provide basic life support (BLS).

What is basic life support ?

The immediate treatment given to a casualty experiencing a life-threatening situation. The goal of BLS is to maintain adequate circulation and keep vital organs oxygenated until professional medical help arrives.

What is a defibrillator?

A defibrillator is a portable device used to deliver an electric shock which stops the heart fibrillating during cardiac arrest. Getting a defibrillator to a casualty within 3 minutes of a cardiac arrest is essential for their survival.

Who is the basic life support course suitable for?

The basic life support training is suitable and recommended for all First Aiders and anyone who would benefit from the knowledge and experience of using lifesaving defibrillator equipment and proving BLS in a life-threatening situation.

What you will learn on the basic life support course

How to provide immediate life saving treatment, including CPR and how to use the defibrillator in a safe and controlled manner.

BLS assessment and certification

The assessment will be question and answer based, along with student practice and scenarios. Upon successful completion of the basic life support course, participants will be issued with a certificate valid for one year.
